Configurations

Configuration A

  • SRAM 12 speed Eagle AXS: GX, X01, XX1
  • SRAM 12 speed Eagle mechanical: X01, XX1

Configuration B

  • SRAM 12 speed Eagle mechanical: GX
  • SRAM 11 speed MTB: GX, X01, XX1
  • SRAM 11 speed road: Force

Steps for Configuration A

Clean the derailleur.

Remove the B screw plate by prying it off with 2 screw drivers. Take care not to damage the derailleur parts. Go slowly, wiggling it one step at a time, and do not force it off.

Remove the mounting bolt.

Remove the small o ring from the mounting bolt with a pick.

Remove the bushing from the mounting bolt.

Remove the large o ring from the derailleur.

Check to make sure the bushing will slide back into the derailleur without sharp edges catching. If they catch, sand the sharp edges of the bushing down, but do not reduce the length of the bushing.

Clean parts as needed.

Install the wave spring with sharp edges facing the head of the mounting bolt.

Install the bushing on the mounting bolt.

Using a pick, install a new small o ring on the mounting bolt. It goes in the groove closest to the bushing. Do not install it in the groove closest to the threads.

Apply a small amount of grease to the OD of the bushing if desired. Do not apply grease to the threads of the mounting bolt or to the small o ring.

Using a new large o ring, apply a light amount of grease to it and install it in the derailleur.

Slide the mounting bolt into the derailleur.

Rest the head of the mounting bolt on the edge of the bench.

Using your thumbs, press the B screw plate down. Move slow and gently wiggle it. It needs to slide over the small o ring without damaging it.

The wave spring may make it difficult for the B screw plate to stay seated. Mount the derailleur once to compress the wave spring and re-seat the B screw plate again if needed.

Apply thread locking compound to the mounting bolt threads when you re-install the derailleur, and torque it to the SRAM specification.

Done.

Steps for Configuration B

Clean the derailleur.

Locate the end of the spiral retaining ring on the mounting bolt. It is very difficult to see.

Using a pick, lift the end of the spiral retaining ring.

Using pliers, grip the end of the spiral retaining ring and remove it from the mounting bolt.

Remove the B screw plate.

Remove the mounting bolt.

Remove the SRAM wave spring.

Clean parts as needed.

Using a new large o ring, apply a light amount of grease to it and install it in the derailleur.

Install the SRAM wave spring (not the Madrone one) on top of the large o ring.

Apply a small amount of grease on the OD of the mounting bolt, but do not get grease on the threads.

Install the mounting bolt.

Install the B screw plate.

Rest the head of the mounting bolt on the edge of the bench.

Rest the star washer on the end of the mounting bolt threads.

Using a 10mm or 11mm socket, press the star washer over the threads all the way down while keeping the socket aligned with the mounting bolt.

You might need to check both sizes to find the one that works best.

Make sure the socket does not damage the threads or the star washer.

The internal fingers of the star washer need to be past the threads.

There will be scratching to the threads, but it will not matter for function.

The B screw plate will sit further from the derailleur than it did previously, but this will not matter when the derailleur is installed.

Apply thread locking compound to the mounting bolt threads when you re-install the derailleur, and torque it to the SRAM specification.

Done.
