Jab Derailleur Compatibility
One of the main features of the Madrone Jab derailleur is its ability to be compatible with many modern drivetrains!
All the Jab 1x derailleurs use the same "base" assembly. From there, the configuration options are:
- Cam type. Cams allow the Jab to shift properly with most 1x shifters and cassettes.
- Cage type. 3 cage options support a variety of 1x gearing ranges.
- Mounting type. There are 3 different mounting types: conventional, UDH with stiffener plate, and T-Type with stiffener plate.
- Color. We will always offer a silver and black option, as well as a couple others depending on what is popular at the time.
Cam Options
Cams allow the Jab to work with a variety of different shifters and cassettes. The options cover a range of modern 1x drivetrains. We cover MTB, gravel (drop shifters), 12 speed, and 11 speed from SRAM and Shimano, with more cams coming in the future for other less common drivetrains.
Check out our Cam Selection page to find the right option for your drivetrain.

Cage Options
There are 3 cage options for the 1x Jab:
-
Long Cage
- Maximum cassette tooth count: 52 teeth.
- Pulleys: 12T upper, 14T lower.
- Typical usage: 1x MTB, eMTB, wide range 1x gravel.
-
Short Cage
- Maximum cassette tooth count: 44 teeth.
- Pulleys: 12T upper, 14T lower.
- Typical usage: 1x gravel, narrow range 1x MTBs.
-
DH Cage (not released yet)
- Maximum cassette tooth count: 25 teeth.
- Pulleys: 12T upper, 12T lower.
- Typical usage: Downhill and freeride.

Mounting Options
There are 3 mounting options:
- Conventional. The Jab can mount to any conventional or UDH derailleur hangar using the M10x1 threaded hole.
- UDH stiffener plate. This option adds an external stiffener plate that pairs with a UDH hangar to add strength and stiffness to the mount, similar to direct mount derailleurs.
- T-Type stiffener plate. This option works just like the UDH stiffener plate, but is compatible with T-Type cassettes. Note: If you select this option, you will also need to buy the T-Type hangar from Madrone separately.

Color Options
We will always have a light color theme (like silver), and a dark color theme (like black or dark grey). In addition, we will have a rotating limited run colors depending on the season or what folks are asking for.
Other Compatibility Details
Chain Compatibility
The pulley teeth and cage compatible with 12, 11, 10, 9, and 8 speed chains, including T-Type chains and flat-top chains.
Barrel Adjusters and Cable Routing
Depending on the type of cam you select, your Jab might come with a barrel adjuster. MTB shifters have the barrel adjuster built in, so one is not needed on the derailleur. But drop shifters (found on gravel and road bikes) do not have barrel adjusters, so the derailleur needs one.
The Jab has 2 positions to for routing the cable housing. Along with the barrel adjuster, the routing options ensure that whether you cable is routed on the chainstay or seatstay of your MTB or gravel bike, there will be a clean way to run the cable to the Jab.
