Jab Quick Start Guide
1. Prepare Parts & Tools
Common Part Setbacks
- You might need to add chain links or replace the chain (possible).
- You might need new cable or housing (likely).
- You might need a new derailleur hanger (possible).
Common Tool Setbacks
- You might need a chain tool (possible).
- You might need a bicycle cable cutter (likely).
- You might need a hanger alignment tool (possible).
2. Remove Old Derailleur
- No need to break the chain if its intact (remove pulleys instead).
- Check cable & housing for friction.
- Check hanger alignment.
3. Remove Jab Upper Pulley & Lower Spacer
- Lock the cage with a tool.
- Remove the upper pulley.
- Remove the lower cage spacer.
4. Mount Jab
Standard Mount
- Attach the Jab to the hanger.
UDH Stiffener Mount
- Place UDH hanger in frame (no bolt).
- Hanger bolt is reverse thread.
- Thread Jab + hanger bolt in alternating sequence.
T-Type Mount
- Place T-Hanger in frame (no bolt).
- Hanger bolt is reverse thread.
- Thread Jab + hanger bolt in alternating sequence.
5. Install Upper Pulley & Lower Cage Spacer
- Place the chain in the cage over the lower pulley.
- Install the upper pulley.
- Wide pulley teeth should mesh with wide chain links.
- Install the lower cage spacer.
- Unlock the cage by removing the tool.
6. Set Chain Length
- Back the B screw out and rotate Jab counter clockwise until it stops.
- In the small cog, the chain should be behind the cage arm (roughly parallel to it).
- If the chain is slack, remove links.
- If the chain is not behind the cage arm, add links.
7. Route & Pinch Cable
- The shifter should be indexed to the small cog.
- Route cable through cable pulley bracket and cam, around the pinch screw under the washer.
- Pull slack out the cable by pulling it rearward.
- Pinch the cable under the washer and screw.
8. B Gap Adjustment
- Check the B gap with the chain and derailleur in the 2nd largest cog.
- Observe the gap between the large cog teeth and the upper pulley teeth.
- Adjust the B screw so the gap is 3mm to 8mm.
- After the adjustment is final, lock it with the jam nut.
9. Final Adjustments
- Set both limit screws so the chain cannot go past the outer cogs or make meshing noises.
- Set the barrel adjuster so it shifts up and down at the same speed and does not make meshing noises in any gear.
- Check shift quality while riding.
