Damaged Plastic Covers
Sometimes the SRAM clutch cover is damaged and will interfere with the motion of the outside link. The clutch cover is the plastic part that says "XX1" or "X01" or "GX". It is purely aesthetic and not necessary for proper function.
If the cover is damaged and interferes with the link, you could try to trim it away, or adhere it down to the clutch housing using a good adhesive, such as CA glue.
This article from NSMB covers the issue in more detail.
A second issue that can occur is the plastic SRAM bezel with the "AXS" marking on it, that covers the AXS button on the derailleur. This cover is purely aesthetic. You can remove it or repair it (in the middle of your rebuild) by using strong adhering thin tape on the backside to keep the pieces or cracks together, and it will not be too visible from the outside if you are careful. We have even used vinyl wrap on the outside, the folded the edges over and trimmed excess. Just make sure it fits over the button properly and does not make re-assembly difficult if you have excess tape.
